Gantoise Legends play Walking Football tournament

On Thursday September 22, the community organisation of KAA Gent, named ‘Voetbal in de Stad’, organised a seminar on European Legends, a Walking Football project of EFDN. In the afternoon the Gantoise Legends, the Walking Football team of KAA Gent, played its first competition.

Walking Football is a football formula for seniors (55+). The seminar was organised especially for civil society organizations and local football clubs to inform them about the benefits that walking football has. The participants noted clearly that Walking Football has a positive influence on the mental, physical and social well-being of seniors and that seniors can be role models in local football clubs.

Since May of this year KAA Gent has its own Walking Football team. Home ground is partner club ‘Hou ende Trouw Zwijnaarde’, in a suburb of Gent. In a next phase the methodology will be implemented in other clubs that are part of the Each Talent Counts clubs.

This seminar was organised with the support of EFDN (European Football for Development Network). In six other European countries, a similar event took place with the support of the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union.
