N.E.C OldStars invited to the Nijmegen Supercup
On 7th of July, the Nijmegen OldStars invited to the Nijmegen Supercup.
Last Friday, also EFDN was in the city centre of Nijmegen joining the Supercup and experiencing the great atmosphere of the tournament in the oldest city of the Netherlands.
An arena right in the city centre of Nijmegen
The Nijmegen Supercup is a four-day Football event taking place at the Grote Markt – the town square- of the city. In front of an impressive setting, a football arena had been set up, as the venue for very diverse football tournaments.
Among others, the Walking Football team of N.E.C Nijmegen had invited different teams from the Netherlands to a participate in a Walking Football tournament during the Supercup.
Yet, since most clubs are currently already in their summer break, only 4 teams were able to attend the Walking Football tournament.
Despite the low number of competing teams, the level of motivation and enjoyment was high. The N.E.C OldStar Legends Team 1 and N.E.C OldStar Team 2 played against two local Walking Football teams. Both teams were partially new to the sport of Walking Football, which turned the tournament to a special event.
Broadening the reach of the Walking Football methodology
Due to the unexpected team attendance, the Walking Football tournament turned in the end into a great opportunity for the club and its foundation N.E.C Doelbewust to introduce the sport Walking Football to a target group, which partially had not yet been familiar with the sport.
Broadening the reach of the Walking Football and Walking Sport methodology is one of the central elements of the European Legends Programme. Therefore, the Nijmegen Supercup and with it the Walking Football tournament constituted an opportunity to reach out to a “new” audience, while playing the beautiful surrounding right in the city centre of Nijmegen.
